The Workshop on Machine Learning for Medical Image Analysis (WMLMIA) is an annual thematic workshop providing a platform to connect researchers across India specializing in the field. Primarily targeted to benefit motivated Researchers, Masters students and PhD candidates who work in the field of medical image analysis and make increasing use of machine learning as an enabler. The earlier editions were organised at IIT Mandi since inception in 2015, 2016 with theme on MRI, 2017 with theme on digital pathology and in 2018 we at IIT Kharagpur would be organising the same during 17 - 21 September 2018.
The theme focusses on setting up a focussed discussion. In 2018 the theme is on ultrasonic imaging. We host a series of thematic speakers aligned with the theme modality to help attendees gain a comprehensive understanding of the modality as well, before delving into its processing aspects.
This year in 2018 we would be hosting lecture sessions, hands on workshop session, and a grand challenge. The "Fetal Ultrasound Censor" Grand Challenge would also be hosted for all participants, who would be provided by a training set of publicly available ultrasound images of fetal scans and of other organs, and the task is to develop machine learning based methods for classifying fetal ultrasound scans vs. other ultrasound scans. The dataset would be provided ahead of workshop dates and teams would be formed by organizers to enable teams working on them. Each team would be associated with Workshop mentors for interim discussions and guidance. During the workshop, there would be mentor meetings with teams and joint activities during the hands-on sessions. On the last of the workshop all teams would be presenting their solutions and leaderboard would be released based on evaluation metrics like accuracy, compute time, etc.
