Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Deep Learning?
(Answer) Deep learning is a genre of machine learning algorithms that attempt to solve tasks by learning abstraction in data following a stratified description paradigm using non-linear transformation architectures. When put in simple terms, say you want to make the machine recognize Mr. X standing in front of Mt. E on an image; this task is a stratified or hierarchical recognition task. At the base of the recognition pyramid would be kernels which can discriminate flats, lines, curves, sharp angles, color; higher up will be kernels which use this information to discriminate body parts, trees, natural scenery, clouds, etc.; higher up will use this knowledge to recognize humans, animals, mountains, etc.; and higher up will learn to recognize Mr. X and Mt. E and finally the apex lexical synthesizer module would say that Mr. X is standing in front of Mt. E. Deep learning is all about how you make machines synthesize this hierarchical logic and also learn these representative kernels all by itself.

Do you provide a certificate?
(Answer) Yes, all attendees to DLVC 2017 WS would be awarded a certificate of participation along with score card based on day wise assessment and final tests issued by Continuing Education Program (CEP), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. This certificate is valued at 2 Countinuing Education Units (CEU) following Institute norms.
Are any subsidized price registrations are available?
(Answer) The rates provided follow any applicable subsidies.
Is there a final test?
(Answer) Yes, please check the theory and lab test schedule on the timetable above.
What are the lab sessions based on?
(Answer) We would be conducting them on PyTorch and Python 2.7. They would be implemented on a HPC Cluster to be remotely accessed by attendees. All attendees are to carry their own laptop. We would provide with WiFi and AC power connectivity.
What is included in the registration package?
(Answer) Registration package includes applicable and associated couse material, breakfast, refreshments and lunch served on venue, access to all technical sessions, hands-on lab sessions via access to an HPC cluster supported by Intel.
Does the registration package include accommodation?
(Answer) Attendees seeking an on-campus hostel accommodation in shared rooms and dormitories at the ITER SOA University Campus can select the option during registration at an extra charge. Please note that the check-in and check-out date and time are strictly binding for these accommodations. Charges as applicable are to be paid along with the registration charges itself.
Do you provide TA/DA to attendees?
